Duck Donuts opens in South Whitehall Township

The Lehigh Valley’s newest doughnut shop is taking orders — and making them right in front of customers.

The made-to-order doughnut chain Duck Donuts opened its first Lehigh Valley location Friday in a newly constructed building at the Tilghman Square shopping center in South Whitehall Township.

At Duck Donuts, customers customize their doughnut orders by choosing from a list of coatings, toppings and drizzles that include peanut butter icing, bacon bits and hot fudge. For anyone overwhelmed by the seemingly endless possibilities, a chart of recommended combinations is on hand to help.

After ordering, customers can watch the vanilla cake doughnuts get fried, iced and loaded up with toppings before their eyes.

On its first day, eager customers were packed into the roughly 1,400-square-foot shop awaiting their orders. After opening at 6:30 a.m., about 200 people had already put in orders by 10 a.m.
