The Triangle’s doughnut wars heat up as Duck Donuts readies third location
In what may be the sweetest news of the day, Duck Donuts is coming to Durham. Say goodbye to whatever remains of those New Year’s resolutions.
The new shop will open this year in the Patterson Place shopping center near US 15-501 and Interstate 40, according to the Duck Donuts Facebook page, situated between Durham and Chapel Hill. This will be the third Duck Donuts in the Triangle, following locations in North Raleigh and Cary.
Duck Donuts started 12 years ago with a small doughnut shop in the Outer Banks town of Duck and has since grown into a giant, with locations up and down the East Coast and a planned shop as far away as Los Angeles.
Focusing on the more dense cake doughnuts, Duck’s doughnuts come in pretty much every variety under the sun, including maple glazed with chopped pieces of crispy bacon. The doughnuts can be customized by glaze and topping.
