Fall at the Beach: Enjoy Outer Banks During Off-Season

Summer at the beach is a wonderful thing. But I have a little secret. I’ll share it if you promise not to tell anyone.

Fall at the beach — specifically, the Outer Banks of the North Carolina — is even better. The weather is sunny and mild in the autumn shoulder season. The crowds are thinner. Prices are lower. But there’s plenty to do and experience.

No trip to the Outer Banks would be complete without a visit (or two… or three) to Duck Donuts. There are outposts in Corolla, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, and Kill Devil Hills, but the original shop is in Duck. The donuts are made to order; you pick the coatings, toppings, and drizzle you want. Create your own favorite, with coatings and toppings like maple, peanut butter, chocolate, coconut, bacon, salted caramel, and blackberry. You’re sure to find something perfectly delicious — and perfectly you.
