Duck Donuts® Continues Minnesota Expansion with Announcement of Mall of America® Location

Duck Donuts, one of the nation’s fastest-growing donut franchise companies known for serving Warm, Delicious and Made-To-Order!® donuts, announced today it will open its second Minnesota location inside Mall of America later this year. Located on level 3, North, the store is owned by Justin Butler, franchisee of the popular Woodbury donut shop, which opened in December 2018.

“We chose to make Mall of America home to our second Minnesota location due to its premier status as a destination in the Twin Cities,” said Butler. “Duck Donuts is more than just donuts, it’s a creative, fun and interactive experience that we feel aligns with the direction of Mall of America.”

“Having a location inside Mall of America aligns with our company’s newest growth initiative of expanding into nontraditional spaces,” said Duck Donuts CEO and Founder Russ DiGilio. “This location gives us the opportunity to expose our emerging brand to the 40 million yearly visitors who will now have the opportunity to enjoy our warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts.”

Duck Donuts, which originated in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, specializes in warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts. Starting with a vanilla cake donut, customers can create their own donut combination by choosing from a variety of coatings, toppings and drizzles, including traditional favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon. Additional menu items will include coffee, espresso beverages and donut sundaes.

“Duck Donuts was created with a focus on family-friendly experiences with fresh and unique made-to-order donuts which makes them a perfect addition at Mall of America,” said Leasing Manager Ashley Hofmann. “We look forward to our guests letting their imagination run wild as they craft their own special and personalized creations.”

Duck Donuts was founded in 2006 by Russ DiGilio in Duck, North Carolina. His intention? To solve a family vacation problem: “Our family wanted a place to buy warm, delicious, made-to-order donuts, and when we couldn’t find one, we decided to start our own.”

By 2011, Duck Donuts had expanded to four Outer Banks locations and the donut business was so successful that DiGilio was continuously approached about franchise opportunities by fans who begged for a Duck Donuts in their community. The first franchise opened in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 2013, and there are now 83 open franchise locations in two countries and more than 145 additional contracts in 26 states.
